Through our treatment divisions, the UMMS Department of Psychiatry serves the mental health needs of the people of Massachusetts. The Adult Psychiatry Division, Child and
Adolescent Psychiatry Division and Public Sector Psychiatry
Division provide comprehensive mental health services to the
central and western Massachusetts areas.

The UMMS Ambulatory Psychiatry Clinic provides services for patients with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, using pharmacotherapy, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, intensive outpatient and day treatment.

The Adult Mental Health Unit is an inpatient unit serving the greater Worcester area, located in the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. The unit provides short-term intensive inpatient care as well as partial hospitalization and acute observation services. For admissions and further information, contact (508) 856-2761.

The Psychiatric Treatment Center is a short-term locked inpatient treatment unit staffed and managed by UMMS Department of Psychiatry to serve the severely and chronically mentally ill and dually-diagnosed mentally ill population in the greater Worcester area. Community Healthlink is a mental health outpatient clinic in Worcester, Massaachusetts. Community Healthlink is committed to providing care for low-income and severely chronically mentally ill patients through long-term outpatient treatment, day treatment, vocational training and supervised housing. Emergency Mental Health Service is the evaluation site for patients in psychiatric crisis in the greater Worcester area. It is a 24-hour, 7-day per week service staffed by crisis intervention specialists, nurses and psychiatric residents. The Brudnick Neuropsychiatric Research Institute is dedicated to the comprehensive study of the brain and behavior. The Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories where scientists are investigating the nature and causes of mental illnesses. Studies focus on the neuroscience of mental illnesses like depression, schizophrenia, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders, and Addictions.
