How to Organize Your Bookmarks

Bookmarks are an easy and convenient way to save your favorite Web sites for future visits. You simply connect to a site, click Bookmarks, click Add Bookmark, and you're done! The only problem is when your list of bookmarks becomes so long that it seems to take "forever" to find the bookmark you want.

This page has been designed to accompany Netscape, version 4.0 and to provide simple-to-follow instructions to help you put your bookmarks in order for fast and easy connections.


Set a Bookmark

  1. Connect to the site you want to save.
  2. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  3. Click Add Bookmark.

Delete a Bookmark

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. Click Edit Bookmarks...
  3. Click once on the bookmark you wish to delete.
  4. From the bookmark Edit menu, click Delete.

Rename a Bookmark

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. Click once on the bookmark you wish to rename.
  3. From the bookmark Edit menu, click Bookmark Properties...
  4. In the box besde Name:, type the name you prefer to use for this bookmark.
  5. Click the OK button.

View a Bookmark

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. You will see a list of bookmarks.
  3. Click on the name of the bookmarked site you wish to view.

Make a Folder for Bookmarks

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. Click Edit Bookmarks...
  3. From the bookmark File menu, click New Folder...
  4. Type the folder name in the box beside Name:
  5. Click the OK button.

Put a Bookmark into a Folder

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. Click Edit Bookmarks...
  3. Click once on the bookmark that you want to put into a folder.
  4. With the left button of the mouse held down, drag the bookmark file, to the folder.
  5. When the folder is highlighted, release the mouse button.

Open/Close a Bookmark Folder

  1. If a -sign is beside the folder, the folder is open, and you will see the folder contents listed below.
  2. If a +sign is beside the folder, the folder is closed. Click once on the folder to open it and see the contents.

Save Your Bookmarks to a Floppy Disk

  1. Click the Bookmark icon.
  2. Click Edit Bookmarks...
  3. From the bookmark File menu, click Save As...
  4. Select 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) from the Save in: drop-down menu.
  5. The Filename: box should say bookmark.htm.
  6. The Save as type: box should say HTML Files.
  7. Click the OK button.

Import Bookmarks from a Floppy Disk

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon.
  2. Click Edit Bookmarks...
  3. From the bookmark File menu, click Import...
  4. Fom the Look in: drop-down menu, click on 3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
  5. Click the Open button.
